2007 Clinical Investigator Awards Recipients
In 2007, SSO established a new Clinical Investigator Award Program with the goal of promoting patient-oriented research through the training of surgical oncologists in clinical and translational science The Society presented three $100,000 awards to the following individuals:
- John A. Olsen, Jr., MD, PhD, Duke University Medical Center, “Development of Gene Expression Predictors of Response to Endocrine Therapy in Breast Cancer” (AstraZeneca).
- Malcolm V. Brock, MD, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, “A New Paradigm for Molecular Staging of Lung Cancer—Translating DNA Methylation to the Clinic” (Genentech).
- Herbert Chen, MD, University of Wisconsin, “A Phase II Clinical and Biologic Study of Lithium in Patients with Neuroendocrine Tumors” (Amgen).
The awards are for two years ($50,000/year), beginning July 1, 2007.
The SSO expresses its appreciation to its corporate partners—Amgen, AstraZeneca, and Genentech —for their assistance with funding of the awards.
