2009 Clinical Investigator Awards Recipients (Spring)
The Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) presented two $100,000 Clinical Investigator Awards (CIAs) at its 2009 Annual Cancer Symposium in March in Phoenix, Ariz.
The recipients of the awards, designed to promote patient-oriented research through the training of surgical oncologists in clinical and translational science, include:
-
Celia Chao, MD, University of Texas Galveston, “Stromal Biomarkers and Colorectal Cancer Recurrence” (Genentech)
-
Rebekah R. White, MD, Duke University Medical Center, “Validation of Gene Expression Profiles that Predict Pancreatic Cancer Response to Gemcitabine” (Amgen)
The awards are for two years ($50,000/year), beginning April 1, 2009.
The SSO expresses its appreciations to its corporate partners—Amgen and Genentech —for their assistance in funding these awards.
The SSO plans to present two additional Clinical Investigator Awards in Fall 2009. Research proposals are being accepted through July 1, 2009, for consideration.
