Objectives: At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to: a) describe appropriate preoperative studies for patients with gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors; b) determine differences in tumor biology of neuroendocrine tumors from different areas of the gastrointestinal tract; c) identify the principals and goals of managing primary resectable neuroendocrine tumors; d) discuss the advantages and disadvantages of minimally invasive approaches to neuroendocrine tumors; e) identify the principals and goals of managing metastatic neuroendocrine tumors; f) describe various approaches to neuroendocrine tumor debulking; and g) discuss the molecular basis for targeted therapeutics in neuroendocrine tumors; and h) discuss the role of emerging molecular targeted agents in contemporary management of neuroendocrine tumors.
