SSO-Approved Breast Oncology Fellowship Programs

The Society of Surgical Oncology is dedicated to providing the highest level of clinical education to those who participate in SSO-approved programs.

In an effort to standardize the breast fellowship training curriculum and make the application and acceptance process more structured, the Society of Surgical Oncology, in collaboration with the American Society of Breast Disease and the American Society of Breast Surgeons, has developed comprehensive guidelines for training breast fellows. Click here for a PDF copy of the "Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship Core Educational Objectives for SSO-approved Training Programs".

To date, 32 standing breast oncology training programs have confirmed that they meet the criteria outlined in the guidelines and have been site inspected. Once a program successfully passes an inspection, it is considered an official “SSO-approved training program.”

Any fellow who completes his/her fellowship in one of the participating programs will receive a certificate from the Society of Surgical Oncology.

The descriptions of the SSO-approved programs should serve as a guide to your fellowship selections. Residents seeking a training position in breast diseases at one of the participating institutions should follow the instructions outlined in Instructions/Deadline Dates for Breast Fellowship Match.

Please note: It is best to begin the application process about one year before your anticipated date of entry into the Fellowship. If you have any questions, please contact Karen L. Oster, Director of Training Programs, at karenoster@surgonc.org.

DISCLAIMER: The breast oncology training programs described have agreed to meet the Guidelines and Requirements for breast oncology training published by the Society of Surgical Oncology and have been site visited. Please note, however, that the information listed for each program was provided by the individual training program director and has not been verified by the SSO.
