2018 JSGS Observership Call for Applications!

The Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery (JSGS) invites SSO members to apply for the observership program in Japan.

This opportunity includes:

  • A stipend of ¥ 550,000 YEN (approximately $4,890) to assist with travel and accommodations expenses for the duration of the exchange
  • An opportunity attend the 73rd General Meeting of the JSGS in Kagoshima, Japan from July 11-13, 2018.
  • Accommodation for four nights to attend the Congress.
  • An opportunity to visit 2 to 3 pre-eminent Japanese Surgical Oncology Institutions and observe procedures following the meeting. No more than one week is to be spent at any single institution, with a maximum duration of two weeks for all institutional visits. (At least one institution will be in the metropolitan area & one in a provincial area).

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be an SSO Active or Active International Member
  • Be 40 years of age or younger as of July 11, 2018
  • Be an ambitious surgical oncologist specializing in gastric cancer
  • Be able to travel to Japan in July 2018 for the duration of the program
  • Possess a valid passport
  • If not a U.S. Citizen, must be able to obtain short-term visa by May 2018
  • Submit a full curriculum vitae
  • Submit a final report within 60 days of completing the program

*The selected candidate should not make any other arrangements (e.g., change in schedule, additional visit to an institution or appointment with a specific surgeon) during the observership.
