2019 JSGS Call for Applications!

SSO members are being offered an opportunity by the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery (JSGS) to apply for a visiting observership in Japan. This observership will take place in July 2019.

This opportunity includes:

  • A stipend of $3,000 USD to assist with travel and accommodations expenses
  • Complimentary registration to the 74th General Meeting of the Japanese Society of Gastroenterological Surgery, held in Tokyo.
  • Complimentary accommodations for 4 nights for the duration of the meeting
  • An opportunity to visit a specialized Japanese medical center and be matched with a mentor with shared specialized interests

To be considered for this opportunity, applicants must:

  • Be an SSO Active or Active International member for at least one year (2019 dues must be paid)
  • Be an up-and-coming young surgical oncologist, 40 years old or younger
  • Specialize in gastrointestinal cancer
  • Be able to travel to Japan in July 2019
  • Cannot have participated in an SSO observership in the past 5 years
  • Submit a completed application
  • Submit a CV (maximum 3 pages plus additional pages for publications & grants)

Candidates will be evaluated based on:

  • Engagement in scientific research
  • Extent of practice that involves GI cancers
  • The written rationale included in the application
