ROSEMONT, IL - Decker Intellectual Properties, Inc. has signed a branding agreement with the Society of Surgical Oncology (SSO) to establish the comprehensive professional surgical online-learning database, SSO COMPLEX GENERAL SURGICAL ONCOLOGY (CGSO).  The subscription-based database, to launch in 2016, will be an inclusive, continuously updated modular resource for surgeons in training and practice.

Decker is renowned for providing practicing clinicians and students with comprehensive and up-to-date medical and surgical information through Scientific American Medicine and Scientific American Surgery.  CGSO will utilize the platform and unique educational features of these iconic publications to establish the new offering in Surgical Oncology.

The module content for the CGSO database product will be based upon the training curriculum used for the new American Board of Surgery Certificate and Exam in Complex General Surgical Oncology.  The SSO has played an instrumental role in the development and refinement of the curriculum and also will provide CME accreditation for those completing the CGSO database modules.

William G. Cance, MD, FACS and Steven N. Hochwald, MD, FACS are Founding Editors in Chief of CGSO. Dr. Cance is Chair, Surgical Oncology and Surgeon-in-Chief, and Dr. Hochwald is Professor of Oncology, Vice Chair and Chief of GI Surgery, both at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo, New York.

Drs. Hochwald and Cance are “ecstatic about the potential for this new resource to revolutionize the education of residents, fellows and faculty members interested in the practice of Surgical Oncology.  This resource will be highly structured, continuously updated and will challenge readers with its ongoing learning component.  Importantly, CGSO includes a heavy emphasis on video based learning through surgical technique from master surgeons”.

SSO President Jeffrey A. Drebin, MD, PhD, FACS, commented, “The SSO is pleased to lend its knowledge and expertise to the creation of this comprehensive educational resource that will influence the teaching and practice of surgical oncologists and cancer surgeons for the next generation.” Dr. Drebin is John Rhea Barton Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery, University of Pennsylvania.

This collaboration between Decker, a pioneer in the publishing of online databases in surgery, and SSO, experts in surgical oncology and the training curriculum, will create an authoritative state-of-the-art learning product.

“CGSO will set a new standard for learners at all levels in surgical oncology,” says Brian Decker, CEO, Decker Intellectual Properties. “It will be a graphically rich resource enhanced by video and pedagogical features for trainees, fellows and practicing surgeons.”

CGSO is designed as a continuously updated resource covering all subspecialties of the discipline, including breast, endocrine, HPB, upper and lower GI, sarcoma and soft tissue, melanoma, head and neck, and GU. It will be available as an online as well as mobile resource for point of care use.
