SSO is pleased to present the new 2014 Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Curriculum and Minimum Training Requirements

We are pleased to announce that the SSO Executive Committee unanimously approved the Curriculum and Minimum Training Requirements on September 15, 2014. These will go into effect on July 1, 2015 for all SSO-approved Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship Programs.

We would like to acknowledge the hard work and effort by the following groups: SSO Training Committee Task Force (Drs. Sarah McLaughlin, Alicia Terando, Anne Wallace, Kristine Calhoun,) SSO Breast Surgery Fellowship Program Directors Subcommittee led by Dr. Mary Gemignani, and an AD Hoc Committee of the ASBS led by Drs. Rena Kass, Susan Boolbol, Jill Dietz, Sara Fredrickson and Henry Kuerer. Finally, we would like to thank Drs. Russell Berman, Keith Delman, and Kevin Roggin and all of the SSO staff for their support in this effort.

Interdisciplinary Breast Fellowship Core Educational Objectives for SSO-Approved Training Programs (2008)

At the completion of his/her Breast Fellowship training, the fellow should be able to apply an integrated interdisciplinary approach to the management of women with benign and malignant breast diseases in a compassionate manner.

The educational objectives outlined under Breast Imaging, Breast Surgery, Community Service and Outreach, Genetics, Medical Oncology, Pathology, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery are considered important goals and should form the core educational experiences for an interdisciplinary breast cancer fellowship program.

Achievement of each of the objectives will vary depending on the fellow's area of pre-fellowship training.
