In 2012, West Clinic joined forces with Methodist Healthcare and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) to create West Cancer Center. This innovative partnership unites the foremost experts in patient care, research and education in order to provide the most comprehensive cancer care available in the Mid-South region. From nationally-renowned oncologists to some of the field’s leading research scientists, patients at West Cancer Center are equipped with a team of multidisciplinary cancer care and research experts that ensure they are receiving the most personalized, innovative and effective treatment available.

The Margaret West Comprehensive Breast Center at West Cancer Center delivers patients a full suite of comprehensive services for the management of their breast health. From screening and wellness to further diagnostic and interventional services, our patients – and providers – have access to the most innovative technologies and procedures. In addition to the highest quality imaging available, patients at the Margaret West Comprehensive Breast Center also have access to complete diagnostic and treatment needs to evaluate a vast array of breast diseases.

Program Details

  • We have a multidisciplinary, patient-centered approach to the management of benign and malignant disease.
  • Our surgeons, annually, treat more than 800 new patients, and manage over 400 patients with various disease processes.
  • We have an active high risk program and our genetic counselors see over 600 new consults per year.
  • Eleven dedicated breast radiologists perform almost 100,000 mammograms per year.
  • Our program is actively involved in clinical trials with the ACORN/VECTOR research group as well as industry and investigator initiated trials.
  • Our physicians are actively involved with the ASBS, SSO, NAPBC, and clinical trials groups. 


West Cancer Center practices medicine from the multidisciplinary approach. The Complex Surgical Oncology Fellow participates in all aspects of surgical management. The two year fellowship will focus on participation on the Surgical Oncology Service with additional rotations to include Thoracic Oncology, Gynecologic Surgery, Radiation Oncology, Medical Oncology, Pathology, and Research throughout the fellowship.

There are dedicated weekly tumor boards that the fellow will attend and present at.  The fellow will assist in instructing residents, medical students, and advance care practitioners.  The fellow will be ready for certification at the completion of the fellowship.


West Cancer Center is affiliated with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis, TN. The fellowship program follows ACGME protocol.

Length of Fellowship: Two years

Eligibility and Application

Completion of a fully accredited program in surgical residency, in the United States, prior to the start of the Complex Surgical Oncology Fellowship is required. You must be American Board of Surgery certified or eligible. Foreign applicants must meet all ACGME requirements. We accept the J-1 Visa only; please do not apply if you need an H1b Visa.
