SSO 2020, March 25 – 28, 2020 in Boston, will bring to life a new meeting experience that was conceived nearly two years ago. SSO’s 2018 – 2020 strategic plan called for the reimagination of SSO’s annual meeting. Since that time, various changes to the meeting’s educational format were enhanced as part of an iterative process to increase engagement and clinical discourse. SSO 2020 will present the most obvious change to the meeting – SSO HUB.  SSO HUB is a new and interactive experience that replaces the conventional exhibit hall.

SSO HUB LogoThe HUB was specifically designed to address the needs of attendees and industry sponsors from both an educational and networking perspective.  With the goal of eliminating the traditional exhibit floor sales environment, attendees will have access to expanded education developed by SSO as well as educational content from industry medical officers and corporate leaders, with clinical trial data and clinical development pipeline information being the focus.  To ensure that goals are met, SSO met with several industry partners to discuss the purpose of the HUB and provide feedback on the type of information attendees desire.  David L. Bartlett, MD, SSO President said, “This new format represents an opportunity for the Society to engage with industry in a way that provides value that goes beyond a single transaction. The ability to have a two-way dialogue to share ideas within the format of the HUB will provide momentum to moving patient care forward.”

The HUB will feature five clinical zones – Breast/Endocrine, HPB, Melanoma/Sarcoma, Colorectal/Upper GI and Immuno-Oncology. Each zone will have a theater where posters, videos and meet the expert sessions will take place. All of this is in addition to the HUB main stage where you may view debates, challenging case reviews, industry spotlights, clinical trial spotlights and team competitions.  M. Eileen Widmer, CAE, CFRM, SSO CEO said, “SSO is breaking new ground with this unique attendee/industry model.  As an innovator, all types of societies are very curious about our approach and are interested in learning about the outcomes.  We are fully committed to making SSO HUB a phenomenal success.”

SSO 2020 also announces renowned oncology leaders and SSO members as featured lecturers. Peter WT Pisters, MD, MHCM, President, The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, will present the James Ewing Lecture and the John Wayne Clinical Research Lecture will be delivered by Monica M.  Bertagnolli, MD, Chief, Division of Surgical Oncology Brigham and Women’s Hospital Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School, Dana-Faber Cancer Institute and Immediate Past President of ASCO.  SSO President, David L. Bartlett, MD will also deliver the SSO Presidential address.
