SSO Virtual Tumor Boards Focus on Cancer Care Amid COVID-19

Check-out SSO’s new multidisciplinary virtual tumor boards that focus on treating specific cases during COVID-19.

The following virtual tumor boards are upcoming and will be archived on ExpertEd@SSO.

Breast Cancer Virtual Tumor Board, Thursday, May 21 at 6 pm CDT

The following cases will be discussed:

  • Pre-menopausal patient with luminal T2N0 invasive ductal carcinoma, Nottingham grade 2, genetic testing negative. Candidate for breast conserving surgery. Procedures in your institution limited to emergency cases only.
  • Pre-menopausal patient with T2N1 triple negative invasive ductal carcinoma, Nottingham grade 3, BRCA1 gene mutation carrier. Completed planned systemic chemotherapy with imaging suggesting a pCR. Patient desires a mastectomy and immediate reconstruction. Procedures in your institution limited to emergency cases only.

Colorectal Cancer Virtual Tumor Board, Tuesday, May 26 at 5 pm CDT

The following cases will be discussed:

  • Patient with profound anemia found to have large cecal cancer.
  • Patient with symptomatic T3N1 distal rectal cancer.

Melanoma Virtual Tumor Board, Wednesday, May 27 at 4:30 pm CDT

  • Patient with long-standing pigmented lesion on back, darkened and became more nodular; biopsy 1.3mm, non-ulcerated melanoma.
  • Patient with lesion on upper arm, initially thought it was secondary to trauma in a fall, associate right shoulder pain; biopsy 8mm, ulcerated melanoma.

Endocrine and Head and Neck Cancers Virtual Tumor Board, Monday, June 1 at 5 pm CDT

The following thyroid and head and neck cancer cases will be discussed:

  • Papillary Thyroid Carcinoma with Potential Extrathyroidal Extension.
  • Sinonasal Intestinal Type Adenocarcinoma with Anterior Skull Base Invasion.
