The Indian Association of Surgical Oncology (IASO) was initially formed as a section of the Association of Surgeons of India in 1977. The Association was legally registered as a Society in 2004. It aims to encourage and advance the science and art of Surgical Oncology. The association is focused on developing Surgical Oncology as a partner in a multidisciplinary approach to cancer management. Today the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology has nearly 1,800 members.
It has been the intention of the Association to join hands with globally relevant societies and intellectuals against cancer. The Indian Association of Surgical Oncology and SSO have been partners since 2014. The Indian Association of Surgical Oncology’s 2023 annual meeting featured a ‘Best of SSO’ session which had the president of the SSO attending and delivering the presentation. The SSO has been helpful in training the Indian Association of Surgical Oncology’s surgeons through the International Career Development Exchange program. The partnership between the SSO and Indian Association of Surgical Oncology gives young surgeons an opportunity to present data on an international level of great repute. The Indian Association of Surgical Oncology also participates actively in the Global Forum of Cancer Surgeons.
